Seed Giving Circle

Shortlisted Projects – 2025 Grant Round

Below are the seven shortlisted projects from our last Seed Giving Circle grant round.

How the voting process works: The Seed Giving Circle is a growing community of Northern Rivers locals who care deeply about the environment and the places in which they live. Members of the Seed Giving Circle sign up and contribute a minimum of $10 per week, pooling their donations to create a local giving circle fund. Environmental and climate action initiatives submitted grant applications in late 2025, which were shortlisted by committee with the top seven projects submitted and listed below. From now until late January, Seed Giving Circle members are voting on which three projects below will be awarded funding out of the seven below. The grants will be awarded in early February.

Meanwhile, Seed Northern Rivers are carefully reviewing the capacity-building support identified by applicants and will launch a Changemaker Collective program that responds to those needs in early 2026.

If you’re curious to be part of this — to support local environmental work, connect with others who care deeply about this place, and have a real say in where collective funds are directed — you’d be very welcome to join us.

How this shortlist was created

This year, 28 projects applied for Seed Giving Circle funding.

Applications were independently reviewed by a Grants Committee of six Seed Giving Circle members in Nov-Dec 2025, who thoughtfully assessed and ranked projects against shared criteria — including environmental impact, community leadership, inclusion, collaboration, systems thinking, and readiness to deliver.

From this process, seven projects were shortlisted and put forward for member voting.

Why the Seed Giving Circle exists

Because the people closest to the work — and the place — are often best placed to decide what’s needed.

The Seed Giving Circle offers a community-led alternative to top-down philanthropy, grounded in trust, transparency and care for the Northern Rivers.
