The project will engage key players in the food system across the Northern Rivers to identify opportunities in which collaborations and stronger networks can unlock the potential for transforming our food system toward regenerative practices and increased localisation and circularity.
The project developed in partnership with Mullum SEED's member, Santos Organics, building on Santos's successful “grow the growers” project that has supported farmers to shift to organic and regenerative practices.
The project hopes to contribute to a reduced climate footprint through a more resilient and self-sustaining local food system. It will also set the foundation for the establishment of a Northern Rivers Community-led Regenerative Food System Coalition to work together to take the identified action.
The Northern Rivers is a hive of activity in relation to regenerative agriculture and local food businesses using locally grown ingredients, local manufacturing facilities, local distributors, and retailers to support their businesses. However, there are food security challenges with the impacts of climate change, growing populations, and the need for an increase in nutritious and affordable food available locally.
Join a growing coalition of regenerative farmers, food producers, and local businesses in the Northern Rivers to build a resilient, community-driven food system that increases access to nutritious, affordable food while restoring soil health and biodiversity. By working together, we can create economic opportunities, support First Nations food enterprises, and drive a sustainable transition toward a circular, decarbonised, and regionally focused food future.
