Our Timeless Threads (The OTT Shop) is a first-year not-for-profit creating connection, dignity and community through intergenerational skill-sharing, sustainable fashion, creative arts and meaningful experiences.

Thanks to incredible community support, we have come so much further than we ever imagined in our first year. Now, we need one final push to secure the space that will allow us to build on that momentum.

Our story began with a simple problem.

Our founder, Maia, a Registered Nurse and fashion designer, had been collecting wonderful vintage clothing donations with the vision of creating meaningful experiences for older people. But those donations were being stored in her garage in The Pocket, Byron Shire, exposed to the elements and unable to reach the people they were intended to support.
 

We opened a small pop-up shop at 1/18 Acacia Street to give the clothing a home and begin building something bigger.
 

The response from our community was extraordinary.
 

The pop-up created opportunities for connection, partnerships, creative activities and support for older community members — and demonstrated just how much potential there was for OTT to become a permanent community resource.
 

When the opportunity to remain at Acacia Street arose, however, the only available option was to take the entire space at 18 Acacia Street — three times the size of our original pop-up.
 

It was an unexpected and significant step up for a first-year not-for-profit.

But we could see what this space could become.

To secure the space, Maia has invested significant personal savings and continued working nursing shifts while simultaneously building and running OTT.
 

Our community has also rallied around us, helping us secure the majority of the commercial lease bond and giving their time to volunteering.
 

This final contribution will allow us to move forward with confidence and begin transforming the larger space into the community creative hub we have been working towards.

18 Acacia Street is more than an op shop.

We envision it as a welcoming, inclusive community space where people of all ages can connect, create, learn and share.

We also hope to modify the space over time to improve accessibility and make it even more welcoming for the people who will use it.

OTT has been built from the ground up through enormous personal commitment, community generosity and a belief that everyone deserves connection, creativity, dignity and a sense of belonging.
 

Our founder, Maia, has worked nursing shifts while establishing and running the organisation, investing her own time, energy and personal funds to get OTT to this point.
 

We are incredibly grateful for everything she has done and are determined to build OTT in a way that is sustainable for the future.
 

Maia is prepared to sell her personal car to cover the remaining shortfall and secure the bond.

As a first-year not-for-profit, accessing traditional finance is not yet a realistic option for us.

This is why community support is so important right now.
